Liberty Steel Buildings supplied and installed the pre-engineered steel structure for the Squamish Nation Lacrosse Box Cover, also known as the Xwmélch’sten Multi-purpose Recreation/Lacrosse Box, in North Vancouver, BC. Spanning 28,750 square feet, this open-air facility provides an all-season playing space for the Squamish Nation’s lacrosse teams, individual players, and community members. Designed for both function and cultural significance, the project features a clear-span structure, a fully painted and galvanized sub-structure, and custom 3D corner accents. The building envelope package includes a roof condensate blanket for moisture control and translucent paneling to maximize natural light. A key highlight is the vinyl graphic cladding, which wraps the facility in a striking design inspired by a traditional blanket worn by Chief Joe Capilano during a historic 1906 visit to England. This visual tribute, achieved through careful planning and budget-conscious solutions, reinforces the Nation’s deep-rooted connection to lacrosse, a sport played by generations within the community. The facility’s location, with the Lions Gate Bridge and passing trains in the distance, further cements it as a landmark that celebrates the Squamish Nation’s sports culture. Completed in 2024, this project exemplifies Liberty Steel Buildings’ expertise in recreational pre-engineered structures, delivering durability, sustainability, and cost-effective solutions tailored to the unique needs of Indigenous communities.
