Liberty Steel Buildings proudly supplied and installed the pre-engineered steel building package for the Sierra Helicopters Hangar and Operations Facility, located at Pitt Meadows Airport (YPK) in Pitt Meadows, BC. This 7,800 square foot facility serves as a multi-functional space, accommodating helicopter storage, maintenance operations, and administrative offices. Liberty’s scope included pre-construction design assistance, structural engineering support, and the complete supply and installation of the pre-engineered steel building system, cladding and window package, insulation system, and a 75-foot sliding mullion hangar door designed to accommodate large aircraft access.
A key highlight of this project was Liberty’s early involvement in pre-construction, where our team worked closely with the client to modernize the building’s aesthetic and optimize the design. Initially presented with an outdated, traditional PEMB concept, the client sought a contemporary aviation-inspired appearance to better align with their operational and branding goals. Through value engineering and innovative design modifications, Liberty successfully achieved a striking modern exterior at no additional cost to the client. This collaborative approach ensured the final facility met both functional aviation requirements and architectural expectations, while maintaining the cost-efficiency, durability, and clear-span flexibility that pre-engineered steel systems are known for.
The completed facility not only supports Sierra Helicopters’ day-to-day operations, but also enhances their presence at YPK Airport with a visually impressive, highly functional structure designed to house, maintain, and support their growing fleet.
