The Qathet Regional District (formerly Powell River) moves forward in sustainable recycling and waste management with a new Resource Recovery Centre. The EPR building showcases a clean, monochromatic design that incorporates the use of heavy timber building accents and natural daylighting. This new pre-engineered steel facility has been designed specifically for recycling and waste management operations. Spanning 4,738 square feet with an additional 1,289 square feet of mezzanine space, the building features a robust clear span frame to maximize usable interior space.
The exterior walls are constructed using fasten-through wall panels, which include translucent sections to allow natural light to permeate the facility, reducing the need for artificial lighting. The roof is a single-slope standing seam system, made from durable 24-gauge material, ensuring long-term weather resistance and structural integrity. Inside, the building is equipped with an efficient insulation system that includes cavity fill insulation placed on top of purlins, covered with a liner panel to enhance thermal performance. This design not only meets the functional requirements of a recycling and waste center but also emphasizes energy efficiency and operational durability.
