The QRD Commercial Transfer Station in the Qathet Regional District (formerly Powell River) is an expansive 9,632 square-foot facility designed to support industrial recycling and waste management operations in the land-locked community. The building features a clear span frame, ensuring an open and unobstructed interior space ideal for large-scale processing activities. The structure is topped with a durable standing seam roof (SSR 24 ga) in a gable configuration, incorporating double layers of polycarbonate daylight panels installed alternately with roof panels, flooding the interior with natural light while minimizing energy consumption. The exterior walls are constructed using AWR fasten-through wall panels with translucent sections to further enhance light emittance, while the interior includes a wall and roof liner to optimize insulation performance. The building’s design seamlessly integrates with the surrounding forest setting through thoughtful color choices and extensive daylighting. The project’s success hinged on heavy coordination and precise installation, particularly given the challenging placement on the concrete main level. This facility not only meets the functional demands of a modern recycling and waste center but also reflects a commitment to sustainability and environmental harmony.
