Squamish Nation Lacrosse Box Cover

Lacrosse holds deep cultural significance for the Squamish Nation. For generations, it has been more than just a sport—it is a tradition. When the community’s aging lacrosse box at Xwmélch’sten (Capilano Reserve) reached the end of its lifespan in 2021, a modern facility became a necessity. Liberty Steel Buildings was honored to contribute to this new, all-season lacrosse box cover, ensuring that the Nation’s passion for the game thrives for years to come.

A Facility Built for the Future

Spanning 28,750 square feet, this open-air facility provides a weather-protected space for athletes and community members. Liberty Steel Buildings was responsible for the supply and installation of the pre-engineered steel structure and building envelope package. The project focused on durability, efficiency, and cultural significance.

Merging Culture with Modern Design

A key highlight of this project is its vinyl graphic cladding, inspired by the traditional blanket worn by Chief Joe Capilano during a historic visit to England in 1906. This design pays tribute to the Nation’s deep connection to lacrosse while reinforcing the facility’s cultural importance.

To keep the project within budget, Liberty Steel Buildings collaborated with the Nation to develop a cost-effective plan for integrating the graphics. The result is a visually powerful facility that reflects Squamish identity and heritage.
